Never Give Up on Brushing and Flossing

Posted .

It is important to take the time every day to make sure your mouth is being cleaned correctly. Although brushing your teeth is extremely important for maintaining optimal health and keeping your enamel strong, your toothbrush will not be able to adequately clean between teeth. To accomplish this task, you must also make sure you are flossing every day. Only with the proper combination of brushing and flossing on a daily basis can you ensure your mouth is clean from debris that may arise due to the foods you eat or the drinks you are drinking. With a few minutes a day of practicing these oral health care routines, you can help ensure your teeth will stay strong for many years to come.

Building a better smile with your tooth brushing techniques includes using your toothbrush effectively. As you brush your teeth twice a day, each session should take approximately two to three minutes. Use small gentle strokes and brush at a 45-degree angle, except on your front teeth, in which you need to turn your brush vertical. Once you have effectively cleaned all sides of your teeth, clean off your toothbrush and store it in a safe location. Do not allow other toothbrushes to come into contact with your brush or any other items for that matter, as cross-contamination can occur.

When you’re ready to enhance your brushing and flossing techniques, take the time to select the products which will best meet your oral health care needs. Be aware that thread and thread forms of interdental cleaners are available. Speak with your dentist to determine which ones are best for you and your physical needs. Once you have selected your product, make sure you clean slowly and gently between teeth so that no areas are missed.
