Root Canal Therapy

         If a cavity (dental caries) gets big enough and close enough to the nerve, bacteria can make their way into the nerve canal of the tooth. This results in a tooth that hurts.Some of the most extremely painful conditions in the mouth can be caused by the bacterial contamination of the nerve canal.
         At first it will hurt when you get cold or sweet on the tooth. Then it starts to hurt when the tooth gets hot. The next step is it will hurt when you bite on the tooth or touch it. Finally the tooth will abscess and either cause swelling of the tissues around it or bone loss, or both. Sometimes all of them seem to happen at the same time.
         To solve the problem, we need to remove the nerve tissue and bacteria from the nerve canal sterilize it and seal it off from the rest of the body so it can go on being a normal looking and feeling tooth in your mouth.
         That is what a root canal is. They have a bad reputation usually because of the pain you are already in before you come in to get it fixed and the difficulty in stopping that pain once it has gotten going. The proceedure is not very difficult to go through and usually not painful to have done during or afterward.
